Physicists develop a new set of potentials to describe spectroscopic properties
A team of researchers from the Federal University of Sergipe, with the participation of Heveson Lima, a physicist at the Luís Eduardo Magalhães Multidisciplinary Center, Federal University of Western Bahia, developed a new set of interatomic potentials that allow us to understand the process of formation of defects in systems containing lanthanide ions. The model developed can explain experimental information, such as the relationship between the bonding lengths of the dopant and the host, as well as the local symmetry and the Stark levels of the optically active ion. The study opens the way for the development of new optical devices, for application in ionizing radiation dosimetry.
